Organ Donation, my Parents are Resisting

The photo below is a part of Pamphlet distributed by Japan Organ Transplant Network. What is written is current situation of organ transplants in Japan, which is a little bit surprising. It says;

Organ Transplant is a Medicare that connects patients whose only way to survive is transplants and people who volunteer to give organs after their deaths. The number of patients who are waiting for offer of organs is 12,000 in Japan, approximately. Since organ donations are very rare, most of them are going to die while waiting for transplants. In Japan, death toll by accidents and diseases in Japan are about 900,000 every year. A little below one percent of them, about 7,000 people are dying by brain deaths. When you get brain death at the end of your life, you can save others lives. Your will is needed. Talk with your family, and sign up "Organ Donation Decision Card" and/or Seal.

Explanation about Organ Donation in Japan, which is a part of Pamphlet of Japan Organ Transplant Network

I think it is surprising that so many patients are waiting but dying because they could not get transplants. Up to today in year 2009, only 5 donors in brain death gave their organs to patients in need. Don't you think the number is too less to help patients whose deaths are coming?

Japan Organ Transplant Network was established in April, 1995. After that, the network distributed "Organ Donation Decision Card" in order to make it possible for people to declaration his/her wish to donate organs after brain death, or after heart death, or refuse to donate at person's will. Since it was very scary to think about death, I had neither get a card nor sign up it. But one day I picked up a card when I dropped by a convenience store nearby my working place. That was in June 1999. And I signed on the back side of the card. That means that after brain death, I will donate my Heart, Lungs, Liver, Kidney, Pancreas, and Small Intestine.

Off course I signed up the date and my name just right side of "–{l–ΌiŽ©•Mj". But the problem was that the card was not signed by my family member. You can see that the right side of "‰Ζ‘°–ΌiŽ©•Mj", which means that at least one of family member should make a signature by his or her own handwriting. Actually I strongly begged my parents ten years ago. But my dad and mom did not understand the importance of the signature and seemed not to want to talk about such issues with me. So ten years, that space has been left blank. I really want a part of my body to help people who have been feared their death even after I die. I know that no one wants to think about death, but we all have to die someday. I think that when my mind gets apart from my body, my body is not my own, so it should be used to save others lives.

Anyway, as photos above indicate, my ten year old card is now slightly damaged on the surfaces and looks dirty a little bit. So I recently requested to get new one through the web. The official card will be sent to me by regular mail, soon, I hope. And I printed the temporary "Organ Donation Decision Register Card". Since my own printer is black and white, it does not look good. But at once I signed on the card (I should say it is just a small sheet of paper, but).

I don't know what my life is going to be like in the future. I work more than 1,000 hour of over hours in a year for three years. I am not confident about my health. I will do my best to get through the my present hard situation. If the worst case happens, I hope that I can save other people's lives. Next time I meet my parents, I think I will try again to get their signatures on my new card. I know that they will refuse again. It makes me so sad.
