Japan's Parliament Election is Coming

The coming Sunday is the election day for House of Representatives of Japanese Parliament (Diet). Mass media says that the long time ruling party LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) will lose and DPJ (Democratic Party of Japan) will win. If it comes to be true, a big change might happen on Japanese politics. But I am skeptical of such prediction. The same kinds of expectations were repeated several times before, but we had been always disappointed by the results of Parliament election.

I think that Japanese basically do not want to change anything even if things are apparently going to be worse. Maybe it needs not to mention the downward slope in the Japanese history that happened 1930s to 1940s. At that time, I don't say no one, but almost of all high ranking officers did not try to stop the things get worse. When it comes to perspectives of ordinary people, I think that the experience of economic success after the World War Two does affect Japanese people's mind. Through many decades, Japanese has not feel any necessities to be suspicious of what they are doing is right or wrong. People have thought that everything we are doing is right, there are no mistakes, and what we need to do in the future is to do the same things as yesterday. So no one wants to change anything, let alone to think about voting other political parties to change things. I don't think Democratic Party of Japan will get majority in the Parliament by the election on Sunday. Even if they are able to be majority, I guess that Mr. Ozawa will mess up everything as he had done before. So I don't have any dreams or illusions about DPJ.

I think I will go vote tomorrow in the morning. I have already decided who and what party to vote. There are two types of voting for the Parliament election; one is to vote for individual candidate, the other is to vote for a party. For the individual candidate election, I will vote for a person who belongs to DPJ. Having said that I don't expect anything about DPJ, but just for the reason that I don't want to vote for LDP, I will vote for a DPJ candidate. For the party election, I think I will vote for Social Democratic Party. I have always vote for the party since I got right for vote. They have been just losing their seat in the Parliament. It is funny enough, but the reason I vote for them is a kind of pity for the situation that they are more and more becoming a weak minority in Japanese politics.

Actually, there will be another vote tomorrow. We Japanese do confidence vote about Supreme Court Judges every ten year on the same as the Parliament election. I think it is very important for us to say yes or no to the Judges who are in charge of the highest position of the judicial power of Japan. And I think that the vote should be done more frequently. Once in ten year is too less. And how to vote for the Supreme Court Judges is quite arbitrary to prevent from voting out. If you don't fill anything, it will be confidence. To make your vote no confidence, you have to write X mark on the ballot. In order to decide writing X or nothing, I have just checked the internet. Government nor Judicial system has done nothing to tell the people enough information about who made what kind of judgments. Having read things on Yahoo Japan, I have decided filling X marks on all judge's names. They should do their jobs obeying their consciences and Japanese Constitution. But I wonder what their consciences are. Isn't it for the people? Or for what? Reading information about each judgefs decision on the court made me feel bad.
