Today's post refers to Mr.IDA Hiroyuki's blog post on July 4th, 2009 (#1). But I am responsible for what I am going to write. An exhibition about one of most criminal acts against human rights had been planned to be hold, but was stopped by the hawkish xenophobia. Lola-net(#2) and WAM(Women's Active Museum on War and Peace) had been preparing for the exhibition about Philippine comfort women which were titled "Comfort Women Exhibition for Junior High School Students". The exhibition was planned to be held from July 29th to August 3rd at Mitaka-shi Shimin Center in Mitaka City, Tokyo. Lola-net and WAM registered a room of the center for the venue by telephone call on April 10th. Perhaps a little explanation is needed here. "Comfort women" were victims of the Imperial Japanese Forces' sex salve systems during Sino-Japan War and Pacific War until 1945. So many young women from Korea, China, Philippine, Taiwan and other Asian regions were brought to all around the Asia-Pacific where Japanese Armies were stationed. And they were utilized to satisfy sexual demands of Japanese Army. This sex slave system was started because Japanese soldiers raped so many Chinese women at early period of Sino-Japan War (Although Japanese soldiers’ rape was not stopped). It is said that "Comfort women" should accept many soldiers in one night and some of them could not get back to their home land after the war. This was a criminal act against human beings and one of wrongdoings of Japanese Imperial Forces. Japanese right wings always try to hide this sex slave system. They ignore the hard experiences of those women and sometime say "They were just prostitutes". I cannot understand those rightists' sayings. It sounded like they are proving themselves that they are evils who don't care other human beings. I think it is very important for us (Japanese) to face Japanese militarism’s crime and learn how severe they were. There are a lot of things to learn those facts that happened in the past times. Through such learning, we would be able to keep the peace, avoid a war, and make the world better. Anyway, Japanese rightists are enthusiastic to cover up the wrongdoing of Empire of Japan. This time, rightists visited city hall of Mitaka and insisted that the exhibition should not be allowed to use the room of "Mitakashi Shimin Center". What they said was the reservation by Lola-net and WAN thorough telephone call was not formal and application by the sheet format was not completed yet. I am not sure who visited the municipal government office, but according to Mr. IDA Hiroyuki's post, the infamous rightist Mr. NISHIMURA Shuhei and Mr. SAKURAI Makoto were concerned with that threatening visit. The latter guy is the leader of xenophobia group "Zaitokukai(#4)" which denounces people from abroad especially Korean descendant in Japan. The rightists succeeded in extracting pledges from city servants that was like "Lola-net's reservation through telephone was not effective because application form has not submitted yet" and "Hearing your opinion, I try to instruct them well". And surprisingly enough, Zaitokukai reserved the rooms in order to prevent Lola-net's exhibition. Revoking the telephone call reservation and giving a permission to use the room for other group, this cannot seem to be a normal act of public servant. I wonder whether or not there were any violent threats by those rightists who visited and accused Lola-net? Their purpose is not just to point out the deficiency of the application but to disturb the exhibition which would reveal the criminal acts of Imperial Japanese Forces. Perhaps the decision of city government of Mitaka indicates that public employees yielded to the threats and made unfair decision. So far, this sabotage by rightists has not been treated on the web. Most of leftist bloggers are still silent about the issue, so only Mr. IDA's blog can be a reference to me. I really don't like such kind of threats from rightists who want to disturb meetings and exhibitions for peace and human rights. More people should pay attentions to such threats and oppose their obstructions.
