Awa Shima

Location : North of Niigata.

How to get : Ferry boat and high speed boat are available from Iwafune Port. The ferry boat takes 1.5 hour, and the high speed boat takes 55 minute. The way to Iwafune Port from Murakami railway station is so distant that you cannot walk to the port. It would be better to get on a taxi at the Murakami JR station.

Left : Fishes at Kamaya Port.
Right : When you leave the island, girls wearing purple Japanese gown
say good-bye to the ship (not to only you.....)

___Awa Shima is located in north of Niigata and west of Murakami city. Its cercumferential length is about 20 km, but it has long shape from north to south. This is small island, so it is easy to go around Awa Shima by bicycle. You can rent a bicycle at community office.

___There are two villages, Uchiura in the east, Kamaya in the west of the island. The boat from Murakami Port arrives at Uchiura, so Uchiura is bigger than Kamaya. But I prefer Kamaya to stay. If you stay at inn in Kamaya, a master of inn will come to Uchiura Port and take you to Kamaya by his/her automobile

___If you like to eat fish, Awa Shima would be a heaven. They serve so much fish at dinner. Raw fish like a whole of a sea bream, roast fish, and boiled shells, etc. Even in breakfast, special seafood is served. That is "Wappa-Ni". Vistors had better eat this! At first, two fishes and water are in a bowl. And then burnt stones are thrown into it. Water gets boiled, and so fishes. Very tasty!
