Information of Kouzu-Shima Location : Pacific Ocean, 178 km south of Takeshiba Pier in Tokyo Area : 19km2 Population : 2,400 at April in 2005 How to get : Ordinary boat and High speed boat are operated from Takeshiba Sanbashi (Takeshiba Pier) in Tokyo. 10 minute walk takes you to the Takeshiba Sanbashi from Hamamatsucho station of Yamanote JR line. Sightseeing Spot Spa Hot spring bathing place is located in 25-minute walk from the village. Though some buses are operated, too less number of buses. The outside bath is said that over 100 person can bathe simultaneously. But please don't forgat to bring your swim suite to bathe in the outside bath. There are also indoor bathes. Statue of Water Distribution Statues of seven islands' gods are standing by the road along Maehama Beach. It is very near from the village. This objet expresses a myth in which seven gods from each islands had a meeting to discuss distribution of water. When you go there, you will see one of gods is laying down. He is the god of Toshima. Since he overslept and was delayed to come to the meeting, Toshima had to get less water than other six islands. Tenjo-San(Mt.Tenjo) The height of the peak is 574.2 meter(1700ft). To climb this mountain, you should prepare as well as for real mountain climbing. If you climb by walk, it would take several hours to get t othe peak. Local Museum There is a local museum in the north egde of the village, slightly mountain side. It is opened on ly on Saturday, Sunday and National holidays. During July and August, it will be opened everyday. My Trip __ I visited the island at beginning of September. Since I took a night ship, I got to the island in morning. The day was very fine whether, the sea was clam, wave was not high on the surface of the sea. __ The ship which had already droped by Oshima, Toshima, Niijima, and Shikinejima, finally got to the last islansd and turning point to Tokyo, Kouzu Island. The ship arrived at the pier of Takou Port that was the opposite side of the main village of the island. Which port is used, Kouzushima Port or Takou Port, depends on whether. __ I met a middle aged lady from the inn. She gave me a ride to the inn. Riding on a small wagon which ran in quite speed on mountanious road was kind of thrilling. I put my belongings in the inn and borrowed a swim suite for spa, and then I left the inn for climbing Mt. Tenjo. __ I started climbing from Kuroshimaguchi Route. Though I worried about sunstroke, because it was really sunny, I could get to the peak. I think I looked weird from other hikers because I wrapped my head with towel instead of a hat. The view from the mountain was great. I could see other islands on the Pacific Ocean. __ After I went down from Tenjo Mountain, I walked to the Spa. I enjoyed the outdoor bath putting swim suite which I borrowed fro mthe inn. It seems some guys were shooting a TV program; there were camera clews and young women with swim suite at the outdoor bath by the sea. __ When I got back to the inn, it had already passed 5 p.m. The dinner was too much. After eating it, I felt my stamach was going to burst.
