Infomation of Shikine Jima Location : On the Pacific Ocean, 160km south of Tokyo. How to get : Ordinary boat and high speed boat are operated once in a day from Takeshiba Sanbashi (Takeshiba pier) in Tokyo ___Shikine Jima is one of Izu isles. Its size is comparatively small to others. North to south is 2 km, east to west is 3 km. Until 16 century, Shikine Jima was a part of Nii Jima. But the land between Nii Jima and Shikine Jima sank into the sea by earthquake in 1703. ___Other islands of Izu isles have some mountains which is like 5 to 8 hundred meter height. But there isn't high mountain like that. Highest point in Shikine Jima is Kambiki Tembohdai, which is 99 m height. But this is very good view point. You can see rough seashore, blue sea, and other islands. ___There are several hot springs in Shikine Jima. You can bath 24 hours at "Matsu Ga Shita Miyabiyu" and "Jinata Onsen"
___I have visited Shikine Jima on Feburary in 2002. That night was terribly stormy in Tokyo. So I was afraid that ship would be shaken. I left my room early enough and got on a subway. But I thought I left something in my room. That was my swim suit! (please refer page of Hachijo Jima) Then I got back to my room, Therefore few munites remained when I got the Takeshiba Pier. ___Ship left Takeshiba Pier at night like usual. Inside the ship, guest space was fully occupied. Most of the guests were tourists to Izu Oh Shima. Because It was fill blooming season of Camelia. ___An university student next to me was heavy drunken, spoke loudly. So I went to the outer deck. Though that was 22 midnight, small grill were opened. I bought there a small bottle of red wine and sousages. Wind was cold, but I drank and ate on the deck seeing night view of Tokyo bay. ___Ship was not shaken inside Tokyo bay, and also outside of the bay, on the Pacific ocean. Maybe, I was too drunken to feel the shaking. When I landed Shikine Jima in the next morning, the master of the inn which I reserved was waiting for me at Nobushi Port. But he said; "Yesterday, my wife got slipped disk. We cannot let you stay our inn" Then he took me to his friend's inn by his car. I checked in there, left heavy staff, then started walking. ___I don't remember which route I walked exactly, but around noon, I went to Matsugashita Miyabiyu but didn't bathe, walked through there, I bathe at Ashituki hot spring. Maybe because it was winter, inside the bath in natural sea rocks, fishes were swimming. I found small bath also made by digging rocks, and bathed. Water was not hot enough, and not clean. Then elderly woman came to warm her legs. She told me like following: ___There were so many inn in Shikine Jima compared to the population of island. She had also maneged a small inn once. But after her husband died fifteen years ago, she soon closed the inn. Because she had to buy fishes to serve guests, then there were no profits left. ___She now lives alone. Her son and daughter live in Yokohama, and they tell her to live together. But she does not like to live urban, especially high apartment room like 23rd floor. So she prefers to live in this calm island. ___After talking to her, I went to the view point "Kambiki Yama Tembodai". The view was great, but it started to rain, so I couldn't take a good picture. Then I walked on the path in the woods to "Tojin Dzushiro". I cannot discrive what it was like, but I felt it danger and scary in Tojin Dzushiro. I kept on walking, but no one, no building's there, I felt very scary. At last, late afternoon, I reached "Jinata Hot Spring". That was located in deep varry to the sea. Many people were bathing in narrow space. I put off cloths and put on swim suit, and then bathed. That hot spring is so popular that many people came there from all over the Japan. ___I got back to the inn and took a dinner. Raw fish was served, but there were so many "Tsumire" of fish. I cannot explain "Tsumire", but please suppose it hamburger of fish meal. It reminded the talk of elderly woman at Ashitsuki Hot Spring. ___Next day, I bathed hot spring "Matsugashita Miyabiyu ". Most of hot spring freak prefer Jinata hot spring, but since Matsugashita Miyabiyu is wide, and warmth of water is good, I liked and enjoyed there. ___After bathing, I bought KUSAYA as sorvenir. But then, time remainded little bit till departure of ship. I hurried to Kambikiyama Tembodai. It was fine. I took the picture above. ___The ship back to Tokyo dropped by each islands of Izu isle. When the ship was leaving Izu Oh Shima, Anko-san were saying good-bye to tourists. They were young Anko-san!! I have visited Izu Oshima twice But both time I left the Island by airplane. I should have left then by ship!
